The Shell

At the beach I found a shell
with a tiny hole at the top
like someone was gonna put it
on a necklace
and then changed their mind.
I kept it anyway.
My mom says the ocean
makes a million of them
and doesn't miss a single one.
I think that's sad.
I think the ocean is sad
and nobody notices
because it's so loud all the time.
