The Pencil That Wouldn't Write

My pencil refused to write maths.
It wrote dragons, spaceships, and three pictures of a sandwich.
When I tried to write seven plus eight, it drew a sleeping cat.
My teacher said the pencil was not the problem.
I am still not convinced.
