The Broken Watch

Grandfather’s watch stopped at 4:17.

My mother wanted to repair it, but Grandfather said no. “It reminds me that time does not always get to decide,” he explained.

After he died, the watch became mine.

Sometimes I wear it to school. Everyone else checks the hour.

I check the memory.
