After The Fireworks

After the fireworks,
the sky pretends nothing happened.

Smoke loosens above the lake.
People collect blankets
and unfinished drinks.

For a few minutes,
we all looked upward together.

Then we returned
to our separate roads,
carrying sparks in our eyes.
